The Chinese Results Your Child Is Capable Of
Our Secondary programme prepares students for O-Level Chinese — Express and Higher Chinese — with small classes, personalised attention, and a curriculum aligned to the latest MOE syllabus and marking schemes.

Secondary Chinese Is a Different Game
At secondary level, Chinese stops being just about vocabulary and composition structure. Students are expected to write with analytical depth, engage with current affairs in Mandarin, and hold their own in formal oral discussions on complex topics.
The jump from Primary to Secondary is significant — and many students who managed Chinese adequately at PSLE find themselves genuinely struggling in Sec 1 and 2. Left unaddressed, this gap widens as the O-Level approaches.
Our Secondary programme meets students at their current level — whether that is rebuilding from a rocky PSLE result or pushing from a B3 to an A1 — and works systematically towards the O-Level outcome they want.
What Our Secondary Programme Offers
Built Around What Gets Marked
Our curriculum is updated to reflect the latest MOE O-Level Chinese syllabus and marking schemes. Every component — written paper, oral examination, listening comprehension — is taught with specific reference to how examiners assess and score responses. Students learn to produce work that earns marks, not just work that is correct.
The Skill That Separates B Students from A Students
O-Level oral and essay tasks frequently draw on current affairs, social issues, and opinion-based topics. We build students' ability to discuss these subjects fluently and confidently in Mandarin — through structured practice, vocabulary building around topical themes, and guided discussion in every class. Many students find this the most transformative part of the programme.
Your Child Is Not a Number
At the secondary level, the difference between a student who improves and one who stagnates often comes down to one thing: does their teacher know what they specifically need to work on? In our classes of 6–8, teachers track each student's strengths and gaps closely — giving targeted feedback, adjusting focus, and checking in consistently. No student falls through the cracks.
Exam Familiarity Reduces Exam Anxiety
Mock papers — for both written and oral components — are a regular part of our Secondary programme. Each mock is followed by a detailed review: what the marking scheme rewarded, what common mistakes to avoid, and what specific improvements to prioritise. Students approach O-Level day having already done it many times before.
What Your Child Learns — By Level
Bridging the Gap From Primary to Secondary
The Sec 1–2 years are critical. Students who consolidate their foundation here tend to perform significantly better at O-Level. Those who let gaps widen often find Sec 3–4 extremely stressful.
Curriculum includes
- —Consolidating PSLE-level vocabulary and grammar in a secondary context
- —Introduction to O-Level writing formats — essay types, response styles, formal registers
- —Oral skills development: structured opinion-sharing, picture description, conversation on familiar topics
- —Building current affairs awareness in Mandarin: media vocabulary, discussing social issues
- —Listening comprehension skills and strategies
- —Weekly assignments and teacher feedback
By end of Sec 2, students will
- —Write in multiple secondary formats with structural confidence
- —Discuss familiar topics in Mandarin with fluency and appropriate register
- —Understand O-Level expectations across all components

Higher Chinese — For Students Going the Extra Mile
Our Higher Chinese programme is tailored for students who want to pursue HCL at O-Level. Beyond expanded vocabulary and more demanding essay types, Higher Chinese requires a different level of oral sophistication — including extended discussion and the ability to engage critically with complex topics in Mandarin.
We integrate Higher Chinese preparation into our Sec 3–4 classes for eligible students, ensuring they are not only prepared but genuinely capable at the level the exam demands.
Results Secondary Parents & Students Remember
“Before Huá, I failed Chinese in Primary 2 and hated the subject. I came here dreading every lesson. But after a few years, I scored AL1 in the PSLE — and the teachers made me feel capable, not behind. I came into secondary confident in a way I never expected to be.”
“Both my children scored A* in their PSLE Higher Chinese and As in their O Levels. This is significant because we do not speak Chinese at home. I am grateful to Huá for the dedication of their teachers over so many years. I strongly recommend them to any family willing to invest in their child's Chinese.”
