When Chinese Feels Like Play, Children Learn It Faster
Our Preschool Chinese programme builds genuine Mandarin confidence from Nursery 1 through Kindergarten 2 — so your child enters Primary 1 not just prepared, but excited.

Built for How Preschoolers Actually Learn
Children aged 3 to 6 are not small adults. They have short attention spans, an insatiable need for novelty, and an emotional relationship with learning that determines whether they lean in or check out. Our preschool programme is designed with all of this in mind.
Every Huá lesson at this level is high-energy by design — not just to keep children occupied, but because engagement is the mechanism through which learning happens. When a child is dancing to a vocabulary song, acting out a story, or bursting with curiosity about a plot twist, they are absorbing Chinese in a way that no amount of drilling can replicate.
At the same time, our curriculum is academically serious. It is closely aligned with the MOE Chinese syllabus, introduces Hanyu Pinyin well ahead of Primary 1, and builds vocabulary and character recognition systematically across all four levels. Fun and effectiveness are not in tension here — they are the same thing.

What Makes Every Class Special
HIGH ENERGY LEARNINGClasses They Actually Want to Attend
Our lessons are deliberately upbeat — with dance-movement songs, interactive storytelling, mnemonic rhymes, and language games woven throughout. When a child enjoys coming to class, every other aspect of learning falls into place.
CURIOSITY-DRIVEN CURRICULUMLessons Built Around Wondering "What Happens Next?"
We build suspense into our stories, add plot twists that make children gasp and giggle, and ask questions that prompt genuine thinking. This curiosity-first approach keeps engagement high and makes vocabulary more memorable — because children connect new words to moments they enjoyed.
CONFIDENT ORAL EXPRESSIONEvery Lesson Is a Conversation Waiting to Happen
Preschoolers love talking about things that matter to them. Our teachers are trained to create natural opportunities for children to practise new sentence structures and vocabulary — building oral confidence in a way that feels like sharing, not performing.
PRIMARY 1 READINESSYour Child Will Not Be Starting From Zero
Our curriculum introduces MOE Primary School vocabulary, teaches correct Chinese character stroke order, and develops Hanyu Pinyin mastery — all before Primary 1. Children who complete K2 at Huá enter primary school with a foundation that makes those first months significantly smoother and less stressful.
What Your Child Learns at Each Level
First Sounds, First Words, First Love of Chinese
At N1, we focus on immersing your child in the sounds and rhythms of Mandarin in the most enjoyable way possible. Lessons introduce core vocabulary through songs, movement, and visual storytelling. Children begin to recognise common characters, participate in group activities, and develop listening attentiveness. By the end of N1, Mandarin feels familiar — not foreign.
- —Listening attentiveness and recognition of Mandarin sounds
- —Core vocabulary introduced through songs and stories
- —Introduction to basic Chinese characters
- —Early enjoyment of the language as something fun and social
Growing Vocabulary, Early Sentences, Character Recognition
N2 builds on N1 by extending vocabulary, introducing simple sentence structures, and beginning formal character recognition. Children start to express themselves in Mandarin in short phrases — "I want…", "I like…", "This is…" — with growing confidence. Character writing begins in earnest, with stroke order introduced through visual and physical techniques.
- —Expanded vocabulary across key thematic topics
- —Short sentence construction in Mandarin
- —Introduction to Chinese character stroke order
- —Basic reading of familiar characters
Sentence Building, Reading Confidence, Expressive Communication
K1 is where children begin to feel genuinely capable in Chinese. Lessons focus on building longer, more expressive sentences — and helping children use Mandarin not just to respond, but to initiate. Reading short passages, narrating pictures, and participating in oral activities become central parts of each class. Hanyu Pinyin is introduced and built upon systematically.
- —Longer sentence construction and oral fluency
- —Reading short Mandarin passages
- —Confident participation in class discussions
- —Introduction to Hanyu Pinyin (foundation)
- —Writing Chinese characters with correct stroke order
Mastery, Confidence, and Primary 1 Readiness
K2 is the capstone of our Preschool programme — and it is where the investment of the previous three years pays off visibly. Children construct complex sentences, discuss story content, analyse pictures with Mandarin vocabulary, and master Hanyu Pinyin ahead of Primary 1. Mock activities mirror the types of tasks seen in Primary 1 Chinese, so children enter with familiarity and genuine confidence.
- —Complex sentence construction and oral discussion
- —Full Hanyu Pinyin mastery
- —Analytical comprehension through story discussion
- —Writing skills with correct stroke order for MOE-level characters
- —Confidence and readiness for Primary 1 Chinese
Inside the Curriculum
Visual Character Learning
Characters are introduced through imaginative illustrations that link the visual form of each character to its meaning. These visual mnemonics dramatically improve recall and make character learning feel like decoding a puzzle rather than memorising a symbol.
Thematic, Activity-Based Lessons
Each unit is built around a theme (family, animals, food, weather, etc.) and explored through poetry (诗词), tongue twisters (绕口令), riddles (谜语), character stroke practice (笔画), and Hanyu Pinyin (汉语拼音). Multiple modalities mean every learning style is served.
Interactive PowerPoints with Animated Games
Lessons are supported by engaging visual presentations with animated vocabulary games. These keep children visually engaged while reinforcing the session's key language concepts in a memorable way.
Show and Tell in Mandarin
Regular structured "show and tell" opportunities give children a low-pressure platform to practise oral expression — sharing something they brought from home and describing it in Mandarin. Teachers use these moments to expand vocabulary naturally.
